Sluice Art Fair was an open-plan platform for artistic ventures which, for reasons of capital, inclination or practice, don’t work within the conventional structure of the art fair as we know it. Over the weekend 37 artist and curator run galleries exhibited work and performance and ran discussions about contemporary art. The event was a great hit, with nearly 3000 visitors over the weekend.
Sluice aimed to generate a sense of a living art world, with ideas and objects still in play, questions still unanswered and conversation still going on. Sluice’s open-plan format was in part a reflection of its driving ethos- to encourage the cross-polination of ideas between artist-run scenes.
